Cubit Estimating Release: Now Supporting Multi-User Collaboration

March 14, 2022

We are excited to share that Cubit Estimating has recently been updated to allow for Multi-User Collaboration.

To access the new Multi-User Collaboration features, you must have access to a Cubit Estimating Enterprise Network licence.

This new feature allows users to work in the same job at the same time. This can allow teams to complete estimates and share information between multiple users much more quickly.

See below some of the new features included in this update.

Job Collaboration

In Cubit 11, by opening a job with Shared Job Access, multiple users can now contribute to the Job. Each user who accesses the job can view what other users have added and also provide their own edits, allowing for true collaboration.

In Cubit 11, if you want to work on a Trade within a Job that’s open in Shared mode, it requires a Trade Lock. When you select a Trade, or a Heading or Item within the Trade, you can lock the Trade by choosing one of the following options:

  • Click the Trade Lock button in the Estimate toolbar
  • Click in the Trade Lock column of the Item Sheet
  • Press the shortcut key (Ctrl + L)
  • Select Lock Trade from the context menu

You can lock more than one trade at a time.

If a user needs to complete an action that will affect the whole Job, such as configuring option or generating a Bill of Quantities report, they will need to place a temporary Job-wide lock.

Improved User Identification

When you are in a job, you can see which trades are currently locked and by which user by checking the Locked By column.

In the Job Manager, you will now see your name on any Trades or Jobs you have locked. You also can now easily use the Job Manager to edit your name, email, or password.

Refresh

When you have a Job opened as read-only or when you are viewing a Job in Shared Access mode, you can refresh the job to see any changes that have been made since you opened the job without needing to close and reopen the Job.

There is now a Last Refreshed status bar at the bottom of a Job that tells you when the job was last refreshed.

User Experience Improvements

The Cubit 11 update has also received some quality-of-life improvements.

Exclude Sales Tax

You can now exclude specific items when calculating your Sales Tax. You can add a new column named Exclude from Tax into you Estimate or Rate sheet which allows you to click a checkbox to enable to item/rate to be excluded from tax.

Enhanced User Experience

  • New icons: Every icon within Cubit has been redesigned to look more modern in addition to look better on users who have 4k or higher screen resolutions. Icons are also more consistent, making it more obvious which features they represent, whether you’re in a Job, Price List, or the Job Manager.
  • Dark mode: There is a new Dark Mode which utilises better icons.
  • Improved settings: The Cubit Estimating Settings (previously called Options) have been improved, using a new interface tab that collects the settings for how you interact with and configure Cubit Estimating. Additionally, the different settings are grouped into better and more obvious tabs.

Improved Imperial Display and input

Some additional support has been added to enable better working with Imperial measurements. Lengths can now be input and displayed using Feet Inch Sixths and Feet Inch Fractions.

Price List Improvements

Cubit 11 offers an easier way to create and buildup Price Lists by adding a new toolbar which replicates the Estimate toolbar. You can use the same tools that you can use in the Estimate like adding Trade, Heading or Item while also allowing the use of the same shortcut keys e.g. Ctrl + T for a Trade and Ctrl + I for an Item.

Referencing in a Job and Price List have also been improved to maintain the references when sharing Jobs or Price Lists.

New Localisation

When installing Cubit Estimating for the first time, you can now set your country so that the localisation settings are correct. Existing Cubit users, you can change the localisation options in the Settings menu within Cubit.

Windows 11 Support

Cubit Estimating 11 is compatible with Windows 11.
